The start/finish of the 2020 Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo will be hosted by Warren Wilson College.
The Bookwalter Binge offers three routes of varying length which traverse some of the most beautiful roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina:
- Gran – 77 miles with 6,250 ft of climbing *NEW for 2019 – three gravel segments*
- Medio – 55 miles with 4,500 ft of climbing
- Piccolo – 39 miles with 2,850 ft of climbing
Road vs Gravel
Are you trying to decide which bike to bring to the Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo? If so, here’s some advice from Binge Co-Founder, Brent Bookwalter:
“The gravel segments that we’ve added to the Gran route are roads that I found while exploring around Asheville on my road bike. Because they are generally smooth and in good condition, I continue to go back to them on the same bike again and again.
That said, some higher volume tires, slightly lower pressure or even a gravel bike would definitely soak up the bumps and make these segments of the course fast and fun.
While I haven’t made a final decision about my Binge Day set-up, I am thinking that my Scott Addict disc with some 28 tires would be primo.
The three gravel segments are either uphill or flat with very little descending which makes them perfect for the group atmosphere of the Binge regardless of what bike you ride.
Gravel or road bike, you really can’t go wrong and it’s more a matter of which ride is your favorite.” Brent Bookwalter
