Warren Wilson College to Sponsor the Binge
The College will also host the Start/Finish for the Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo on Saturday, October 27, 2018
The new partnership between Warren Wilson College and the Gran Fondo will see the College providing a new venue for the Start/Finish, and a venue for the after party. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, NC, the Warren Wilson College campus will be alive with autumn colors.
Cyclists, volunteers, and sponsors will come together to celebrate at the College’s historic Bryson Gym after the ride.
“We are excited about this new partnership because it provides an opportunity for the College to showcase many of the elements that make Asheville a destination for living, learning, and cycling in western North Carolina,” said Dr. Lynn Morton, president of Warren Wilson College.
“When I ride from our home in Asheville, my route almost always takes me through the beautiful Warren Wilson College campus. I relish the beautiful forest and inspiring Blue Ridge Mountains that surround the campus and can’t wait to share all of it with fellow Bingers,” said Bookwalter. “At every edition of the Binge, many key volunteers are current and former Warren Wilson College students, so it is a perfect fit to bring the Binge to their doorstep and involve more of their awesome crew.”
The Routes
The Bookwalter Binge is a relaxed Gran Fondo ride, studded with racing on timed segments of tough climbs that provide an epic challenge to all.
While the three routes will change slightly to accommodate the new Start/Finish venue, the routes will still traverse some of the most beautiful roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina and will include the same three timed segments as in the past: Lakey Gap, Bearwallow Mountain, and Point Lookout Trail.
This is a unique opportunity to ride alongside female and male pro cyclists as they celebrate the end of their season racing all over the world and the country. The accessible pros ride all three routes, and along with Brent, they are inspired by cyclists of all backgrounds and abilities.
